I hope that massive Civil Penalties and Jail Terms also come their way, for what they have done......if found to be guilty.

There was an item on our local news last night about a woman who lives in Camas, Washington who claims to be a freelance undercover reporter for the NOW. If that is true how can they have any control over the actions of staff that remote from the papers office.

Wish we "Murricuns" were as pro-active as the Brits when it comes to unacceptable and outrageous acts such as this. There are many, many areas where public outrage could be a catalyst for change. Murdock may have had no choice but to pack it in since Renault and Virgin, among many others, pulled their advertising from NOTW, leaving him with drastically reduced advertising income. Can't run a paper on thin air & pay 200 employees' salaries.
Too bad that, for an infected branch, the entire tree had to be taken down down.

I wonder what the backlash would be etc if it were a non-tabloid paper involved. There truly is no honor amongst thieves, is there. Fleet Street loves any opportunity it can have to take out one of their own given the chance, but it just so happens NOW sabotaged themselves.
Let's hope it puts a dent into Infotainment 'sources' over here (ahem, Faux News)
Sheesh - NOW 38 isn't a compilation of top ten music ... its about top of the chart infractions and felonies committed by Murdoch et all!! .... Now THAT'S what I call news!!
imo keyword "Freelance" that person is an independent contractor ie responsible for their own actions. However, I would imagine there is an element of vicarious liability in place because they are hiring such people to do a specific job and they would know the methodology involved... and subsequently sanctioning it, but, one can wash your hands clean from it all too! - Sorta like US gov't and Blackwater during Iraq.
I do agree with that but its always wishful thinking, isn't it.... everyone LOVES a train wreck and rubber necking of news stories because its out of the ordinary and an escape from our own individual lives (even look at some of the "scandalous" threads on here about who'se done what and said what to whom!). Just as quick as one would grab the pitchfork; its even quicker to stand there staring at it wondering why its in the hand in the first place...

The Sunday Times seems to be heavily involved in the latest allegations about hacking into Gordon Brown's private life (including his kids' medical records).

Glad to see the British sense of humour isn't lost in this matter...
Heard on a friend's answering machine in Southampton last week...
Sorry I'm not here to take your call. please leave a message and the NOTW will respond to you as soon as possible.

But the UK is a day late and a dollar short on this one -- the evidence has been sitting around in bin bags at Scotland Yard for years, and now there's a problem they figure they'd better take a look at it. That's why the top guys there are dropping like flies.

I think they feel about as welcome as a Fart in a Spacesuit, at the hearing going on, in London.

So much for security -- someone just burst into the hearing and tried to pie Rupert. Wendi caught him a good smack on the head.
