Whether we want to believe it or not Big Government is here and has been for several decades. Many of The freedoms that existed 80- 90 years ago in America are long gone. The start of big gov. occurred during the administration of FD Roosevelt prior to and progressively during WW2. It hasn't been all bad by a very long shot.

The GOP don't believe in Big Government. As one GOP politician (whose name isn't worth trying to remember put it) "Government should be shrunk to almost nothing and then drowned in a bath tub"

That about says it all. Small government is the philosophy of the GOP. Such things as a guaranteed pension upon retirement (such as it is) and any kind of health plan involving the government plays no part in government affairs.

You pays yer taxes and yer stands on yer own completely.

I remember Rand Paul's dad Ron Paul saying during one election campaign several years ago (He ran as a Republican and not as a member of his own party the even more demented "far out" Libertarian Party which makes the GOP completely and utterly sane by comparison) "that in days past citizens could always rely on the church when sick or in need of help"

Don't laugh. There are actual clods who even believe in that point of view
