95%.

And you made this judgement based on a stay of how long, exactly? And what do you
mean by the "eastern seabord". The weather is quite different in, say, Maine than
it is in Florida. The northern half of the eastern seaboard had 4 distinct
seasons with 4 distinct weather patterns. Pennsylvania tends to be hot and muggy
in the summer, yes, but we regularly get cool Canadian weather masses which bring
gloriously cooler drier weather. Autumn is lovely. How can you make such a
generalization about weather after a few brief stays? We just had one of the
wettest Junes I remember, following a drought-like May with day after day of dry,
clear, 70° days.

It also occurs to me that people are flocking to live in semi-desert throughout
the far west and mid west. They are depleting the ground water at an alarming rate
(California pumps in water from the Colorado river), and the environment can't
support the population in many of the nice warm dry states that people are moving
to. "Wet" equals "sufficient rainfall to support habitation."

systems that gas stations Kiosks in IL have to have. (Then again in ID we can legally
shoot a robber with impunity.) The weirdo survivalist here are ALL immigrants from NY
and south CA. Then again we bankrupted and arrested most of them.

Excuse me? People WHERE live in fear of felons? I've spent my whole life in this
part of the country. I can tell you that's not true. Many people in my area still
leave their doors unlocked. I'm only 2 hours from New York City. Again, why do
you make such sweeping generalizations? And how do you think that this post would
manage not to offend anyone? Do you assume that no one in the newsgroup lives in
this whole section of the country? As for the "weirdo survivalist", I didn't
think they came from any one particular place. Do you have any statitistics to
back up your claim?

The cost of living where I live is quite low. In the bigger cities it is higher,
just like anywhere. But higher cost of living tend to correspond with higher
wages. "Most people are extremely snobbish", said Larry who just passed judgement
on a whole section of the country after nothing but a few brief visits. Hmmmm.
Interesting. Perhaps they were snobbish to you because you'd already passed
judgement on them?

Sorry, but perhaps you should hold such negative judgements until you actually
take the time to get to know some people and their customs.

Beth, who has found mostly nice people whereever she's traveled.

As an American who travels to Canada (BC) on business, I think that Canada is kinda
schizo-its somewhere between being American and British...in a lot of ways it takes
the best of both and makes a better culture of it...

USA can be real harsh at times...however, different parts of the country are
different in terms of hospitality to the outsider.

Ummm.. you do realize you just describe the United States, right? And Canada as well.
Doesn't the United States take from other cultures and make it it's own? Don't you
think different parts of Canada have people who behave differently?
