It might be a resonable argument if Hershey's-produced Cadbury's products had a strong foothold in the US. They don't. Really, it's hard to see what Cadbury's is gaining from that deal and easy to see what it is losing.

Maybe Cadbury just didn't see the US market worth dealing with themselves?

Obviously they did it for a reason, and maybe they just didn't want to deal with the US market?

Maybe they figured they would have to reformulate for the local climate anyway why not get a local firm to reformulate for taste too.

I suspect that is the case. However, it seems to have turned out to be a very poor deal for Cadbury's: hand production and distribution control long-term to an entrenched mass-market chocolate company that has little or no incentive to make a superior product to their own. At the very least Cadbury's should have kept control of things like the cocoa content (less than half in the Hershey's-produced version). Instead with essentially have a Hershey's bar in a Cadbury's wrapper, meaning there is little or no incentive for punters to buy it in preference to Hershey's own stuff.

We've gotten our chocolate from World Market sometimes. I wonder if this will effect them? If so, guess we better hit the store this weekend and stock up. :-/

Cadbury's is now owned by Kraft. Perhaps they could figure out a way to combine chocolate with Velveeta.

Didn't Cost Plus stop carrying the "real" Cadbury's a while back? Iirc, they were one of Hershey's targets post the Kraft takeover.

Ah yes, here's the BE thread:

Enjoy Kraft Vel-cocoaâ„¢, our finest blend of cocoa renderings, palm oil and our traditional cheese food. Share it with your family as a dessert, healthy snack or on toast.

And then Kraft split into 2 different public companies. Mondelez International owns the snack food division now including Cadbury.

Not sure how much if any the current Kraft owns in Mondelez since the de-merger a couple years ago.

So you're saying that Velveeta and chocolate won't work?
