Re: Nothing weird here.
fish finger sandwiches, id forgotten all about them. now im drooling
id never had chips with gravy until i went to Uni in Brum. Then it was a literal staple lunch item for most students. Hubbie is more a curry sauce on chips kind of guy - bloody heathen.

Re: Nothing weird here.
I agree. Someone once told me I couldn't be a 'proper' Brit if I hate Heinz beans.
Most other kinds of beans/legumes of all kinds I love. Kidney beans, pinto, black, white, navy, pink, black-eyed, lentils, edamame, whatever. But those gooey little nothing beans in that thin gooey tasteless Heinz sauce--yuk! (Also just remembered that I hate American lima beans almost, but not quite, as much as British beans.)
Never tried Vegemite (--isn't it similar/same as Marmite?) but Marmite is the food of heaven. On carrot or celery sticks is even better than toast IMHO....
.............
The rest of those choices in the clip are not weird, just double carb-y (as is pointed out there)....

Re: Nothing weird here.
* US baked beans have a much thicker sauce, usually with a load of sugar or molasses.

Re: Nothing weird here.
"Thin"? Heinz Beans have the best sauce of any "British style" baked bean*, with every other brand of baked bean being watery in comparison, such that I don't understand why, say, Tesco and Sainsbury's even bother with own-brand beans if they can't get a thicker sauce similar to the sauce in Heinz beans.
I make bean soups & chilis from scratch, and they come out far thicker than Heinz' insipid "sauce"...more flavourful too.
The ONLY sauced beans from a tin I've ever had that were OK (not great, but OK) were American, Bush's Chili Beans in Hot Sauce. We take those camping with us here...& they are tolerable.

Re: Nothing weird here.
Since I've always abhorred any British baked beans, I've never even tried anything other than Heinz, the only brand espoused by the Brits in the family.

If you mean the Boston baked bean style sauce with brown sugar & no or little tomato--yes, that's completely foul too. ....

Re: Nothing weird here.
But I do understand why many folks love the whole Heinz beans thing; it's because for these peeps beans go so very well with the toast (on top of or sopped up by), or as the 'glue' amongst the items in the fried brekkie, etc. I doubt even many 'true' Brits would ever enjoy them on their own. I can't stand even a taste of them, though, & would much rather 'bind' my big brekkie with nice runny egg yolk as the 'glue'.
Yes!
