If she has the option to shop in Costco they usually have a fairly cheap feather jacket in each winter. I bought mine for about £17 in the UK in 2014 and it is still my go to winter jacket for cold days. Teamed with hat, scarf and gloves it should keep her warm enough.

I'd recommend walking the Brooklyn Bridge, you get on from the West end near by City Hall and get to walk to Brooklyn so you get a great view

At the Brooklyn end, take a walk down to the Manhattan Bridge and take a walk through the Dumbo Park

Too much weather worry. It's not that cold in NY in Nov.

A 22-year-old would be attracted to the East Village and various grungy places that are my favorites such as the Lower East Side and Chinatown. She could visit alternative record stores and get something pierced.

How about lunch at the famous Katz's Deli, famous for the "I'll have what she's having" scene from When Harry Met Sally.

FWIW, a moocher in these parts (USA!) is equivalent to a schnoorer. Knowing what a schnoorer is would make her an authentic NY person.

Thanks all. Some great ideas and some I've already suggested so good to know I'm not completely useless. She may or may not do any of it but she asked for ideas so she says thanks as well.

So The Weather Channel now has daily forecasts for NYC through to November 30, and, surprise surprise, is predicting over night lows mostly of 34°-36°F (no lows below 33°F), and daily highs averaging around 48°-50°F, and as high as 55°F.

The 14 day weather forecast for the NY Met area is surprisingly accurate. My sister is an ex geography teacher. She was amazed how accurate the forecast was. During one visit the weather 7 days later was for snow at 4 pm. Low and behold it started to snow at 4 pm...she couldn’t believe it.
