Moving electronic goods to US

Re: Moving electronic goods to US
Steve is saying that a 2Kw transformer is big and expensive. I say you can get one starting around $60.
I think my hifi runs on a 1kw transformer, and it is a "smoothing transformer", so cost a bit more but is supposed to reduce the noise in the US's notoriously dirty mains power.

Yeah, that's at the cheap end. I think I paid about $90 fifteen years ago, so your suggestion of paying $200 is probably in the right ball park. In any case there isn't much point IMO in trying to run $000's of hifi on a cheap transformer.

Thanks Steve and Pulaski, i'll go for a good brand, well made 2kW smoothing transformer. You are right, don't want to risk my set using a cheap transformer.
