Last Week Tonight
I have been forced to change the hyperlink in my signature because let's face it, this TV show is the equivalent of this forum.
A British guy mouthing off about all the stupid shit that goes on in America.
Frankly I think anyone thinking of moving to the US from the UK should be required to watch every episode.

The show is getting really popular and is a genuine must see for me every week... plus he's definitely coming off a lot less sanctimonious these days and slates brits and fifa alike every so often.

The John Oliver Effect: The HBO Host's Real-World Impact
His influence is pretty wide spread as well. The effort that goes into some of the pieces is outstanding. The latest about the evangelical TV ministers has basically been an 8 month sting operation. He says in interviews that he isn't a journalist. I would disagree.

Excellent! Thank you. Will definitely plan on watching it once I move there. Would love to see the evangelical sting, I will be moving to the south and would love to think it will have an influence.

Well since you put it that way, you could be right!
P.S. Smilies no longer work for me, can only manually put in a smile or sad smilie.

Amongst the best in US journalism is found in so called fake-news comedy. Olivers move from Stewarts show has kept that tradition alive. We lost Colbert, yet to see how the Daily Show will go, but Olivers show is arguable better than Stewarts.

I think it definitely benefits from being in a weekly format as opposed to daily. Even though it's a great show, after a few years TDS really started to get stale for me.

Oliver has done a brilliant job with this show. He has certain freedoms that Stewart didn't have, he's able to swear at will which helps add emphasis and he doesn't have to worry about pissing off advertisers as HBO doesn't have any. He's usually spot on though and his evisceration of targets various has been great to watch. I'm expecting a lot of fun from him in the run up to next year's election.

Emphasis on "some" because there have been some dodgy ones, for example the one on State legislatures showed a legislator looking at "porn" during a debate on abortion which sounds exciting until you find out that it was a prank being played on him by a friend of his who sent him a dodgy attachment which he immediately closed. Of course the few seconds he had it open is what got the headlines.
I thought the one on US territories was a bit crap as well. American Samoa for example didn't want to become an organized territory because they were worried about US companies buying up all the land, the end result being that American Samoans aren't US citizens. And Puerto Rico has been talking about becoming a State for decades.
And DC Statehood - well that's a dumb idea, saying it has a bigger population than Wyoming doesn't alter the fact it's a city. Also didn't mention that the population has been declining. Have it annexed by Maryland maybe.
