The best traditions are the pagan traditions that Christianity just adopted, the eating and drinking and singing bits, the debauched office party.. You want booze? You want cake? We can put the booze right in the cake!
https://www.livescience.com/25779-ch...-paganism.html

[ In England under Oliver Cromwell, Christmas and other saints' days were banned, and in New England it was illegal to celebrate Christmas for about 25 years in the 1600s, Nissenbaum said. Forget people saying, "Happy holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas," he said.
"If you want to look at a real 'War on Christmas,' you've got to look at the Puritans," he said. "They banned it!" ]

That's hilarious! I'd have loved to have seen that! Lol.

Yes, the start of December is more than enough lead time for the festivities.

I've been looking but not seen any yet. I think I got mine at Independent, (Loblaws franchise) last year. When they arrive they usually roost on the shelves near the fruitcake so I hope they're not just putting them somewhere else. Having overdosed on early season eggnog weeks ago I won't be eager for more of that until closer to Christmas, but stollen or fruitcake with coffee and schnapps doesn't grow old for quite a while.

Bought my first three stollens today. Couldn't decide between the three, so we got all three (fruit stollen, nut stollen and marizpan stollen).

Disgusting... Stollen contains all those items, fruit nuts and marzipan. Which retailer is desecrating this comestible? And ripping off their customers!

Real stollen is very cheap in the uk, 2 quid in lidl to about 4 in m&s, in grenada one makes ones own...

Panneforte - can you get that? Its an exercise in how much candied peel and nuts one can get into a flat biscuit shape with minimal cake dough, bulletproof but very good...

I don't remember as my girlfriend paid for them, but we did buy them from an Aldi's, as we looked at them in World Market and Trader Joe's, and those were expensive.

Oh I know, I was offended that they'd split all three Stollen items up! I took a slice of all three to end up with a real Stollen on my plate I remember buying Stollen and Panneforte a back home and it was so much cheaper.r

I paid $4 for mine.

It must be Christmas soon because the pork scratching advent calendars are on sale.

Christmas adverts all over the TV channels today, not just the ones for furniture where they promise Christmas delivery, but all the big stores have their adverts out now, CH5 this evening started with 'Christmas Movies'.
