On the issue of naming States....there is a tradition in America culture that misunderstands the naming and locating of states and their capitals for historical and geographical knowledge and understanding. This is something I have shockingly witnessed from within a classroom by someone who was hired as a history teacher. (I should also point out I have witnessed excellent history teaching in an American classroom - though that was World History, still yet to see American history taught well, American mythology may be an obstacle that makes it harder to teach)

"Free speech/the 1st Amendment" is still protecting any and all of those who have had their web sites removed.

WTF?
This thread looks like a crime scene. Six deleted posts?
Frye quoted me but I don't know which post he quoted or what he said. Any witnesses?

Really, he had no insights of value. He seems angry. I called him out on his meaningless formulation of "politically incorrect" speech. (Illegal in the UK, according to him.) He melted away like a snowflake on the kitchen range.

He said you were the sexist woman he'd ever met [online] and if he ever saw you in real life he'd never be able to contain his animal instincts. Roar.

Thanks for sharing the history of the statues, Leslie.
Probably like many of the silent readers of this thread, I had no clue.

I'd be curious to know who started the riot in the first place. The trouble with this country is that there's no longer any tolerance for opposing views, not that I agree in the slightest with what the Alt-Right preach. I think all this started with the Vietnam war

I live in a rural area in New York that is historically republican, but is now pretty evenly divided. We had a town hall event recently, voices were not raised at any point and opposing viewpoints were listened to by all, and indeed politely applauded by all. Working Families Party has for many years had quite a following up here - and for some elections, candidates run under republican and WFP lines. (Although democratic/WFP is more common.) There have been very contentious issues, such as a scumbag district attorney who allowed her political machinations to intrude in and derail a murder case, but none of these things lead to riots or even raised voices. Things get discussed rationally and worked out.
My wife and I went to the Board of Elections yesterday to change our party affiliation, we were greeted warmly by both the Republican commissioner and the Democratic commissioner. They seem to run a pretty neighbourly and tolerant office.
