Everyone at my current place uses duckduckgo.
But they can still tie your search to an IP, regardless of how many proxies and VPNs you hide behind.

It was definitely a thing. I never found any myself growing up but I knew mates who had, and then the internet came along and that was the end of that.

Honestly, I just surprised that anyone is under the impression that they have privacy regardless of their participation on social media.
In 2000, we were already informed at our AOS interview that USCIS reads immigration forums. Here it is 17 years later and do people really believe that Big Brother has not embraced all electronic avenues to ensure the country's 'safety'

General rule of thumb: If it's something that'll get you into bother that you don't want then you shouldn't be posting it on the web. Thankfully I never succumbed to the charms of 4chan...
