Default Houston Texas School System

Hi,
Someone told me that Texas still upholds corporal punishment in the public schools.
Is this correct?
My husbands job maybe relocating down the road to Houston and I am already very nervous about the education system down there compared to that in NJ. Was not even thinking about corporal punishment until someone brought it up to me.
Thanks.

But in 2011, laws were introduced in both Texas and North Carolina giving parents the right to exempt their students from any CP provisions. This codifies what in many areas was already the practice, formally or informally. However, the new Texas rule applies only to large urban areas, those school districts with a population under 50,000 (of which there are hundreds) being exempted. Since most large urban school districts had already abolished CP, and since many other districts already allowed parents to opt out, this new Texas legislation may not make a great deal of difference on the ground.

We are in Katy ISD rather than HISD, but I suspect similar rules apply. The only school I know of around us that does allow corporal punishment is a private catholic school, whose terms and conditions allow the school to exact CP and only tell the parents afterwards.

Got this from here: http://www.examiner.com/article/corp...-texas-schools

At the current time, Houston ISD does not allow corporal punishment, nor does Galveston ISD. Other school districts in area that do not allow corporal punishment include Friendswood ISD, Pearland ISD, Clear Creek ISD, Santa Fe ISD and Dickinson ISD. However, Alvin ISD allows it, as well as Pasadena ISD and Deer Park ISD.
