Home Sick? Not when you have....
You Tube!
Seriously, watching videos of the places you remember back in Blighty always raise a smile and even seeing old TV shows from yesterday-year.
Anybody agree?

Sort of.
One time my son got into an 'Oakie Doke' marathon. Last time he was home he wanted to look them up again
We had a blitz on 'TV Burp' as well.

Another amazing thing on YouTube is all the vintage footage, including British Pathe newsreels from the early twentieth century and the like...

I occasionally use Google Street View to have a look around the places I grew up and it has the opposite effect of home sickness, I honestly don't recognise the place and know I'd be lost if I ever returned.

I do that now and again. Last time I checked, it was updated as my old car wasn't in my mothers driveway...and she's now watering the flowers in the front garden which is rather amusing.
Seeing a couple of my old locals that have closed, not so much though.

Last time i did street view i noticed everyone's front gardens that used to be green lawns, flower beds and shrubs surrounded by a brick wall are now completely paved driveways for parking. Cars all parked up with wheels on the pavement, it just looks like houses with piles of cars around them. Just makes me feel claustrophobic. I'd hate to go back.
Pubs closed, old green park areas built on. The corn field out the back of my old house, full of those three story flat things they are building now. Right to light is now a common issue now as the place is getting more and more overcrowded.

I watched some you tube clips of the old Butlins at Barry Island. It was real eye opener on what used to pass for an annual weeks summer holiday when i was a kid. Knobbly knees competitions the lot.
Made me feel guilty for taking my kids to Disneyland.

I remember a mini series years ago in the UK.
Based on a book by David Lodge, 'Small World' which concerned a bunch of academics traveling to conferences around the world. A fun romantic comedy drama.
Wish I could find a copy somewhere but Google hasn't been cooperative.
(Incidentally, it's quite easy to download videos from YouTube and play them on the telly via a USB stick or burn then to DVD.)
