The problem in my neck of the woods, at least until very recently, is the "the family have suffered enough" argument not to prosecute the father/ brother/ cousin/ etc. of the deceased child. This is absurd - until people take the matter of guns in the home seriously the accidental shooting of children will continue, and the more people who are prosecuted for recklessness or carelessness with guns around children the sooner the matter will be taken seriously.

Hunters Ed is sort of like that, you do an on line course and they basically review what you have a;ready passed. Weather was crap for the live shooting bit so was as quickly done as we could.

Not looking good this year, 2 cheques returned so far.

If you wish to have it licensed. As far as I know you do not need to prove where a handgun came from that the state does not know about, you can easily say I bought it in 19@@.

Same goes fo magazines, not sure if they changed the law but when the limitations came in you could buy higher capacity magazines that were a kit with no issue, saw it done in a gun shop in Fort Collins, take magazine out of box, undo screw take apart put it back in bag and sell it.

If a firearm is accessible to a child it's normally a crime, but that might be the child access laws some states have.

Would not that apply to anything, not just gun specific?

Agree.

Reminds of the story of a guy who pleaded mercy in front of a judge due to being an orphan. He was being convicted of murdering his parents.

Same goes for unsecure poisons, medicines and machinery.

No. Child access laws are specific to firearms: http://smartgunlaws.org/gun-laws/pol...ss-prevention/

Not Federal, but many States have them, even Florida.

I assume there are similar laws for poisons.

There is no reliable test for common sense.

Would this have happened in the UK? Don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

Officer Ajir was in close proximity to Johnson during the foot chase. Johnson reversed course and turned towards Officer Ajir and advanced towards him while displaying a utility knife, prompting Officer Ajir to unholster his handgun and fire multiple times, striking Johnson. After Johnson was down on the ground, additional officers arrived and approached Johnson with a shield for officer-safety, then began rendering immediate medical aid until paramedics arrived. Paramedics determined that Johnson was deceased. A utility knife was recovered from the scene.

It is a crime, but the problem is that it is a very reactive law - impossible to enforce until someone has gotten shot. No state is going to allocate funds and personnel for gun cabinet inspections, even if such a thing was practical, as the black market for secondhand guns is such that any kind of gun registry is wishful thinking.

Some states, such as Arizona, have a law on the books making creating a firearms registry illegal. Even Illinois, despite its liberal, gun-restricting largest city, doesn't register weapons.

7.62 , not the usual 5.56. 7.62 is heavy compared to 5.56
