Default Getting a hifi system into USA from UK

Hi There,
Was wondering what the implications are in buying(£1750 ish) and bringing it over to USA for personal use.
Over here it's priced at $2999 plus taxes.
I will be staying for about 10 days when i visit UK.
Would i have to pay VAT there as i'll be taking it out of EU?
What custom duty would i pay here in USA?
thanks

Whether you pay VAT on it will depend how au fait the shop is with the export paperwork.

What you will pay on entry is very likely to be a LOT less than 20%.

Make sure the kit is dual-voltage - will save a lot of hassle.

I remember getting some VAT back at the airport, but cannot remember what paperwork was required. The office was a little hidden from what I remember.

IIRC, at Manchester its a fairly non-descript letterbox airside. I took Landrover parts home, left the paperwork in the box, and then was reimburses by the part supplier a few weeks later
