Florida shooting

Re: Florida shooting
It will be a much longer time before anyone is ready to ban or restrict guns used for hunting or self defense. For the time being, cutting down on the types that aren't needed for either but is good at massacres is a more feasible approach. You'll still get pushback from the people who want to defend themselves against a SWAT team though.

As an additional thought, in Chicago alone they took 5,000 illegal guns off the streets in the first half of 2017. Suppose 10,000 for the year, let's say. Taken away - obviously there are a lot more out there.

In one city.
On top of all those are all the legal guns of course. In 2016, it was estimated that about 212,000 people are licensed to own guns in Chicago alone.
Do the math, as they say. It's mind-boggling.
This is, in part, why it's going to be such a long haul to disarm this society and reduce the propensity for violence.

Got to start somewhere.

Canadian's have guns. Canadian's go out and shoot people less it seems.
So what the experts need to figure out is why, the 2 countries are next door and are very close culture wise for the most part, although Quebec likely has more differences.
Most TV and movies Canadian's watch are the same as the US, ditto with Music and other media.
So why are Canadian's less prone to going out and shooting people?
Maybe better access to basic healthcare? It's not always easy or quick to access mental healthcare, but basic healthcare is fairly easy to access.
Suppose gun laws being more uniform in Canada might help vs the patchwork of laws in the US, 50 different states with differing laws and rules + federal laws.
I never knew anyone in California who openly talked about having guns, but I sure do know fair amount of Canadians who have guns and openly talk about them.

The US is also next door to Mexico, now if you are close to the Canadian border you might well say there are commonalities, would you say the same if you were close to the Mexican border?

Following on from this, not necessarily aimed at you, of course -

Seem's a sensible read for those in the discussion for gun control.

Not sure what you're getting at here. "Trump and the NRA" are not in control of any city or locality in the USA. (Trump being President, the NRA being a membership organisation.) Presumably law enforcement throughout the US seizes illegal guns when they are aware of them?
