Floods in Texas
How are we doing people? We are holding up ok. The roads are doing their job and flooding to take the water to the bayous. Our local bayou seems to be handling it. It seems like anywhere around us isn't managing quite as well.

We escaped the worst of it down here in Pearland, the culverts and ditches are as full as I have ever seen them, but the roads aren't bad at all. Did see one flooded house on a side road during the school run this morning.
Never got any sleep though and just had a call to say the dude has 30 min detention (first time this year with less than 2 weeks to go) I may give him a pass due to lack of sleep last night coupled with an all night school 'lock in' on Friday. If only PISD had been shut today

We had a lot of rain (my gauge says 11.15" but I'm doubting the accuracy) but we didn't even get a flood that crossed the street, which we used to a couple of years ago during heavy rain.
The MUD district (well, I think it's them) have been doing a lot of drainage work round our way recently and I guess it got tested last night! On a more macro level, the new drains I installed a couple of years ago finally got a decent workout, and proved up to the task, so I'm happy about that.
I haven't been as far as the bayou yet, so not sure how that is looking, but guessing it will be pretty full, as is the fridge (to get back OT) after a weekend of end-of-season parties and out of town visitors, none of which seemed very hungry. I think we're going to be on leftovers all week - worse than Christmas, although at least cooking and shopping are off the chore list for a while!

I am not there at the moment as I am dealing with issues in France but I have been watching the local tv reports via my laptop. Downtown Austin had its worst flood in over 20 yrs with even 6th street flooded. From the photos my husband send was pretty bad in Pflugerville but not quite as bad as Halloween 2013. I suppose the one bright spot is that the Highland lakes are now 56% full (unlike when I left when they were in the low 30's) and with the run off, they might even reach 60%. Just hope we don't get a tropical storm now. The last picture of what the creek normally looks like.

We had a small town not far from here get hit with a flash flood over the weekend, obviously on a smaller scale, water came out of nowhere and it all happened in less then 1/2 hour.
Hopefully the folks in Texas don't see too much damage.

Cypress was hit pretty hard by by the main front coming through, as was everywhere, and another more isolated storm came through at about 4am. I get the impression that we did better than other places, though. I was on a work call at 9pm, thinking that we were getting it bad, and then one of my colleagues who lives somewhere off Wilcrest in the Energy Corridor apologised for having to step out. He said, "Sorry, I wanted to move my car, as there was hail the size of ping-pong balls".
I was worried about travelling this morning, but 290 and my section of the Beltway were just fine. I had my quickest Houston morning commute ever.
And yes, Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is closed. I've also been told every school district in Houston is closed, but not sure how true that is. My wife has had to take vacation.
