Yes, but don't you think there's a difference between three months and three years ?

Oh, I agree. I just can't bring myself to do it.

My good lady is paranoid about expiration dates, I don't, care if it looks okish, doesn't smell too ropey, its good.

I am blessed with an excellent asset, I cannot smell or taste milk if it's off, the only time I notice is if the milk has lumps!
I have made a cuppa for the good lady and she has nearly pewked because of the rank milk, ho hum, sorry dear

Depends on the food. Milk yes....most tinned food no. As I said...if it looks OK, smells OK and tastes OK...it's probably OK IMO.

Generally that's my position too, except for fish beyond about a week after it was bought/cooked and ....

Milk, which I get sceptical about once it gets within two days of its end date. First it starts to taste creamy, a day or two before it spoils. Mrs P doesn't seem to notice and will continue to drink it for a day or two after I consider it to be spoiled and undrinkable.

Apart from some goods we got on good sale and decide to freeze (such as 6 packs of rainchecked bacon), the Mrs is pretty good at buying just the amount we will eat, and so it's very rare we have to toss something for the date. In the past it is usually milk.

I had to laugh because last night i needed a can of chilies for a recipe and knew I had one on the pantry shelf. Turned out that it had expired in Nov 2015! Well, I figure hot chilies last forever, so I used it, and I'm here to tell the tale!

I was making curry a few weeks ago and the curry powder isn't as hot as I wanted, so I dug out a jar of curry powder from the draw. ..... It came from Britain with us more than 15 years ago!

I'd never even noticed that till your post. I'd always just assumed it was real cheese ; family used to buy it when I lived in the MidEast but I was never into cheese then.

It says on the tin " Pasturised Prepared Cheddar Cheese product"

Yeah the use of the word "Product" does send up red-flags.

Ingredients: Cheddar cheese (milk, Cheese culture, salt , enzymes), water , cream, calcium phospate, salt, sodium citrate, sodium phospate, lactic acid, nisin (peservative), annatto (color).

Sounds like any ole packaged mass manufactured cheese from the grocery store??

When in doubt, throw it out. And you should have doubts.

If you insist on ignoring that bit of common sense advice, then look at it and smell it. If it seems OK, then try just a little bit of it and see what happens.

If you aren't dead or hospitalized as a result, then try a bit more. If it does kill you, then you'll stop on your own accord.

It can't be that different from Velveeta, which is another offensive Kraft faux-cheese product that is widely available here in the good ol' USA. Try that -- you'll probably like it.

From the draw ... ? is that an English expression? Is that a southern adoption?

We use the tinned squirty cheese for the dog. Helps us get him to take his medication.

I tried Velveeta once and thought it tasted like Dairylea Cheese triangles.
