Duck Dynasty

Thought police? Do me a lemon.
This isn't a left/right issue. It isn't even a gay/straight issue, I'd be prepared to bet that most gay people don't give a flying fluck what some fundie thinks of their lifestyle. It's the constant ramming of religion down the throats of the general public and people using this 'religious freedom' to justify being a bigot with impunity.
Yes, he's free to hold any opinion he likes, just as anyone else is free to say he's a cocksocket for saying it. Also, just as A&E, as his employer, have the right to put filming on hold.
I find it amusing that all these people braying about his freedom of speech said absolutely nothing about what happened to the Dixie Chicks and their Bush comments ...

At this point, it is what it is. The free speech aspect will have been done to death thirty times over for all the back and forth.
I will never give up my personal fight against the continued and ever-forced intrusion of religion into the daily lives of everyone when it should be kept inside the churches, temples, mosques, henges or wherever they are practiced.
And to those who would accuse me of forcing secularism I will say firstly, secularism is all-inclusive, by it's nature it can't be forced. Secondly, consider this - which is the most harmful viewpoint:
1. Homsexuals are abhorrent, evil, unnatural abominations who chose a lifestyle for which they deserve eternal punishment.
or
2. Homosexuality is a perfectly natural state of being and those who are born that way deserve to live their life free of oppression by those who have no business sticking their noses in at all.
It's an easy one for me.

But I have been hearing about the
the school curriculum in protestant schools in NI. Now I suspected the DUP were nutters because of paisley, but I had no idea how nutty free presbetarians really are. Teaching the earth is 6000 years old. No wonder you left.

The DUP themselves aren't the nutters (apart from their conservatism), but the Presbyterians always seemed a bit off, to my laissez-faire Anglicanism, when I was practising.

I thought I'd refresh my memory on that one, so I googled <Dixie Chicks> and got this:

Many people now see the DUP as the natural party of Government in Northern Ireland. Proud to be a Democratic Unionist.

It's not the DUP, there is a Sinn Fein education minister, I went to a "protestant" school then an integrated school, all I was ever taught at school was evolution, and I believe that still to be the case today.

I was also taught evolution in school. During the '90s, for reference.

Re: Duck Dynasty
I just did a cursory Google of 'young earth creationism in NI' and the first article did mention evangelicals in the DUP having been responsible for the movement.
The education minister now might be Sinn Feinn/IRA (which is an issue unto itself) but was there a DUP one prior? I've been out since 2005 and this seems to be a very new movement so I have no direct reference.
I was a DUP/UUP waiverer. Voted for both parties - weird how I'd have to vote so far outside of my own interests to preserve the Union, isn't it? Ever think you'd be on the same team as an evil atheist such as myself?

There is a movement within the party that would be supportive of it of course, that I don't think the average Robinsonite like my self is particularly supportive of the idea (I'm an old earthier/intelligent design rather than YEC). Sinn Fein have held education since the Assembly returned.

As Jim Wells often says I don't care of you can see the grooves on the ballot paper because it's through gritted teeth, it still counts are 1 vote
