It doesn't bother me whether people have them or not. Some look ok, some look horrible.

I think they used to be seen as a sign of individualism, however, it seems to have become the norm to have a tat in your 20s and doesn't seem individual at all.

The foreign language ones make me laugh, oh it says Peace in Chinese. It probably really says Chow Mein.

They are both body art. For most people they are different.
The big objection I have against tats, and why I would not get one myself, is that I would not allow my body to be the canvas for someone elses art.
It might be a bit better if the recipient designed it, but you are still the canvas for someone elses craft. Few tat themselves.
Most people chose and apply their own make up.

I agree - when people cover their arms and legs in them - it just looks a mess and so dirty! My hubby has a little scorpion on his A - is it my imagination but it seems to be getting bigger?

I have been the creative mind behind all of my tattoo's, and although I am not skilled in tattooing, these designs have been applied by people who are.

I have a large black/white tattoo on my calf, a black tattoo on my wrist and back of neck, a cluster of colorful tattoo's on my shoulder/upper arm and a large chest piece.

None of these have hindered me, and I have only received positive commentary on them. If someone wants to look at me negatively because of what is on my skin rather than getting to know me, then that is their own narrow minded decision.

Tramp stamps are to 2003 what chest pieces are to today, tbh.

In his mid 20's my nephew had his upper arms tattooed with those black, angular scimitar like designs....dont know what you call them, but you know what I mean..

His mum went ballistic.

He asked me what I thought. I asked him how many times he'd decorated the main room in his flat in the 7 years since he'd moved in.

"3 times" he said.

"Why?" I asked

"Got bored with the color"

Nuff said.

Just hope he never wants to move to Japan.

'Fraid I'm another old git. Don't like them, never will. Won't judge someone for having them, but similarly will never understand it.

Kinda sorta off topic but...

I have been to many weddings where the bride has had tats showing (usually arms and backs) and to be honest every single one of them has looked like an imperfection on what otherwise would have been a beautiful bride.

I have always thought of the 'tramp stamp' to be the lower back tat as seen just above or below the thong showing out of the jeans/trousers.

Agree, have yet to see a tat on a woman which enhanced her appearance, IMO of course. And yes a "tramp stamp" is most commonly located on the lower back, near the pant or panty line.
