Just received new passports but they didn't return the old ones. Is this a new thing? Anyone else had this? Could be a major pita if you have visas you want to use..

If you mean UK pp, they come back separately a few days later.

So do the US ones. Recently renewed and old one came back in a separate envelope a few days later.

Funnily enough, my Dad recently renewed his UK pp (in UK) and paid for express/ signed for -whatever it is. The OLD pp came back express/signed for. The new one arrived by regular mail a few days later. So he says!

They return them separately. My wife got her old one back after the new one

2 parcels came today with our old passports.

That's 4 international parcels for 2 passport renewals.

Absolutely normal. Each passport is treated seperately. So, two passports, two couriers for new passports and two couriers for old passports and documents. Supposed to be for security reasons. I know, to you and I logic says they are going to the same address so put new passports in one package, old passports and documents in another. You paid for individual courier return anyway.
It appears UK law states that, except in certain circumstances , all passport issues/renewals MUST be individually addressed to the applicant, supposedly to avoid the possibilty of Fred Bloggs getting Ethel Bloggs new passport and hiding it!

Now we all know why it costs so much! The plebs that do the work get minimal pay, but couriers rake it in.
