Day Without Immigrants
Be interesting to see if this really happens.

I can see that potentially a few people will jump on the band wagon... And then will be written up for it.

Re: Day Without Immigrants
What a crock this is. It should be a day with ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. There are millions of legal immigrants in the US. It is the illegal ones that most are angry about having them living and working here illegally.

Re: Day Without Immigrants
We live in a post truth and fake news world. Mind you this seems to have been going on for a very long time.

Re: Day Without Immigrants
Seems to me more like "spiting your customers", or "shooting yourself in the foot" than protesting against government policies. That'll show 'em!
FWIW I think the "day without immigrants" is an annual event, I have certainly heard about it several times before. I guess it has got more publicity this year.

Locally it got on the news, because Hispanic grocery stores are apparently staying closed today.

Maybe you don't have as many wretched immigrants as we do. By the time they make it to your neck of the woods they might as well keep on going, into Canada!

Most of our immigrants are university faculty, so not wretched in the sense of their economic circumstances. Some of them are wretched in other ways...

I'd like to see a "Day Without the Entitled Assholes Who Flaut the Law by Employing Illegal Immigrants Because They Know that Nobody Will Punish Them for Breaking Federal Law".
Let's have ICE round up those illegals.

Made the news around here too and a few Brazilian places were closed and a bakery in town, but then they said it was due to a burst pipe

I believe it has been around for a while. I remember them trying it in NYC and it didn't come off to well.

Re: Day Without Immigrants
"I'm all in favor of a "Day Without Immigrants". But is has to be a day without ILLEGAL immigrants. If they want it to be with all immigrants then the protest means nothing but being an attention getting mechanism. Force each and every US employer to NOT hire illegal immigrants and then perhaps they will think twice about coming to the US. Fine them, prosecute them under the letter of the law, and if they continue to do so, close their businesses. And while they are at it, no state, city, or town should be a sanctuary for illegal immigrants."
