I was surprised when I started seeing them near where I live - they don't appear to be larger than a medium-sized labrador. I can see that they're a risk to small animals, but I don't think they're much of a risk to most humans. Given how aggressive feral pigs can be I am surprised that it is said that coyotes will take on even a young pig. If there are adult pigs nearby a coyote could be in great danger if it tackles a young pig.

Get some stuff to deter animals from your property, granular, I think from Home Depot. I don't know how well it works though. We used to see them crossing the road near our house in MA. They didn't look too scrawny though, as we were out in the country, so plenty small wildlife for them to eat.

We get lots of sightings. Here you don't report them or really do anything. They advise to not feed the feral cats or feed anything at ground level, walk your dogs on a leash and be careful with your garbage. If you see one they advise to make lots of loud noises so they run off.

Called Animal Control as suggested on here this morning, the lady on the phone said Coyotes were quite common in this area. She asked me if we kept chickens.. as that was the reason they came. When I said no chickens but that there had been some birds, she told that was why! There was apparently nothing they could do, but that they would keep an out for it.

Glad you called -- it is always good to get a local expert viewpoint. With no pets or children, I don't think you have anything to worry about. Once he/she realizes that the food source has dried up, the interest in your property will fade.

We were one of the first houses to go up in our neighbourhood, and for a year or two, we'd often hear the coyotes after dark. A couple of times we looked out of our (downstairs, as is usual in Texas) master bedroom, to see about ten coyotes howling at the moon on the road in front of our house. One day, there was an ill coyote on its own on our front porch during the day.

Those coyotes were taller than a labrador, but much more scrawny.

These days, they have built more houses around us, they have leveled the ground and cut the grass of the area immediately west of us, and they have put in the Grand Parkway, a 4-lane tollway, two miles west of us. I have heard people occasionally see a pack coming under the Grand Parkway, but they aren't around the area most nights any more.
