"Fake News" is fake news, whichever side it comes from. There is no easy way of identifying it, and there is no virtue in appealing to authority. Yesterday's authorities can be today's liars - and, as we see, news reporting has become so corrupted it's impossible for the man in the street to identify it. We should suspect every report - especially when it serves a partisan purpose.

Well it's pretty easy to identify when Donald Trump says it.

The only problem is the DJT supporters who can't tell the difference, or don't look further than the ends of their noses for the truth.

The only people who are panicking about "fake news" are the MSM who have been found out, and the only morals that are being questioned are the morals of their editors and journalists. So many peoples' eyes have been opened in the past year and the trust that has been lost will never be regained, not least because they don't seem to have any sense of their own wrongdoing.

So next time don't call CNN fake news when they are reporting facts and a document that hasn't been verified. It's unverified nature doesn't make the reporting about it fake.

Indeed. When Trump shrieked "fake news" at the CNN reporter, you just knew that CNN was accurate in its report and Trump was... lying. Which is exactly what turned out to be the case. Good for CNN on pursuing this.

Certainly with the Guardian, my major source, it is fairly easy to spot.

Comments are disabled, been a long time since they posted a fake story with comments enabled.

It is about one of their pet subjects.

The stupid thing is when a fake story is on line it takes just a moment if you want to check, I can only assume they are thinking they are preaching to the converted?

The article sucks. Neither Google nor Facebook produce news they just provide the platform for dissemination.

I see that Putin has put you back on the payroll.

A guy who thinks that Breitbart is a news source is in no position to claim that he opposes "fake news."

You provide links to "news" from sources such as Sputnik, which is a Russian government propaganda website. It's Pravda for the electronic age.

You're like a Klansman who is complaining about racism. If you had zero credibility, then it would be an improvement.

The focus of the Guardian article you linked to is the "digital giants". Maybe you should read it.

What part of CNN's report was inaccurate/fake?

Here's the report so you can pinpoint specifics: Intel chiefs presented Trump with claims of Russian efforts to compromise him - CNNPolitics.com

Another fake news story and that is just today, seems that it is a mega issue both sides of the Atlantic and through all political persuasions.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Most fake news is on FB, blogging sites and fake news sites like Breitbart; sure you get the odd inaccurate in the cable networks and prints but those are few and far between.

And there are channels you can complain through about errors in print media.
