British students on soccer scholarships in the US
BBC Sport - Why more British students are taking US soccer scholarships
Interesting story. Seems quite an industry building up to get British soccer players scholarships here. Particularly good for those picked up by clubs as schoolboys then dumped by the wayside. Obviously no mention of visas in the story but I presume it is just F1s.

Down where I am, the local teams pick up stack of kids from Brazil, various African countries and the UK.
We're talking proper shit, low level teams mind, but from a few of the Brits I spoke to when I last caught a game, they were here on J1 exchanges, interns and one was a F1 through the college as a sports science jobby.
When I say stack, of the 11 starting players, only 1 wasn't a import who needed a visa, but his folks were Brazilian

I expect that the market is getting swamped with unscrupulous companies along the same line of those who sell dreams of modelling careers. Sounds like it will really only financially benefit those who just missed the English leagues by a small amount - with only a partial scholarship it's probably still more expensive overall than sucking up the UK tuition fees.

Re: British students on soccer scholarships in the US
When I was in the UK I helped at a non-league club in Sussex. It was a regular occurrence for players to have 'soccer' scholarships to US colleges. Normally 1 or 2 would be selected from our youth set up after many of them applied.
This was long before my interest or need to understand visa requirements. As they were going to college I assume it would be F1s.
