Sadly, if she is an orderly or similar, there might be nothing she can do, assuming she objects to doing it.
She's assists the Doctors with surgery, not sure that's classed as an orderly though? It's more akin to the role a nurse would perform in my opinion.

Alternatively, as a hospital focussed on wellness (or they should be anyway), it might be better if they enforced a strict walk your lazy arse into the building yourself policy, unless you're geriatric or have a broken leg or you're a baby.
Completely agree with this. I will be speaking to them directly to suggest this if the situation does not improve very soon.

Of course not, instead what will happen is I shall point the injured colleague in the direction of an appropriately qualified injury attorney to ensure the employer suffers financially instead.

I do take the opinion though that my wife's physical health is far more important than her job there, my earnings cover us both easily, and would be fine with her quitting if it meant her health was not put at risk.

You don't seem to get the part about injury to physical health do you? Working until midnight a few times is nothing. Being asked to potentially injure yourself physically is an altogether different proposal. You DO get that, right?

My point is it is her battle to fight, not yours. Regardless of your opinion, she needs to make the point, not you. If she doesn't want to approach her bosses about it, that's her choice, you don't get to do it for her. She's not a child, it's not like going to school and standing up for your kid. As her husband you get to offer advice, and your opinion, not to go into her workplace and make demands.

Medical assistant, maybe? Not sure, it's probably a situation where the hospital is short staffed and they're picking on other departments to do it - who knows.

Either way, simply 'being fat' isn't a reason to be pushed in a chair. Unless they have a broken leg, of course. Walking, for me is a way to offset the fact that I am utterly unwilling to give up eating lovely big portions of various foods, which are not good for me

Well, I'd have a word with your wife beforehand, even if she doesn't need the job, it's probably best not to get her in trouble, just in case she wants it, or might need a reference for another one.

I completely agree with you with my wife needing to make this point on her own. However, my personality for dealing with confrontation like this is very different to how my wife would deal with things. Hence my frustration that this isn't being resolved.

If it was me being put in that position, i'd just get another job and **** 'em.

Yep, don't worry, I wouldn't do anything without her express permission. She feels just as strongly as I do regarding being compelled to do this, and like you say, just because someone is obese is NOT an excuse to being pushed in a wheelchair from the parking lot.

It is disingenuous at best and maliciously ignorant at worst for you to admit you hate "fatties" and then say in essence that they should not expect medical treatment from the people hired to provide it. Your wife has a right to tell her boss that she is required to push heavier people than she can physically manage, but her organization has to provide health services to sick people, including fat sick people, especially in cases where the fat is either due to or a contributing factor to their sickness. Why don't you just admit that you'd like "fatties" to die quietly in their own homes so you and your wife don't have to be inconvenienced by their disgusting lack of sex appeal?

In which state do you live, or does your wife work?

Especially not by someone who has another job to do. That's the bit that's weird. Unless the hospital doesn't have porters who are usually employed to wheel people and tables and things about the place.

Or maybe I watched too much Casualty in the UK.

No, sorry, that is just NOT true. The specialist medical facility my wife works at is not a general doctors, or anything of that kind. They do not treat fat people for any kind of fatty issue, or disease or problem or whatever. They simply have fat people as part of their clientele, just as grocery stores have them as customers also.

Their business isn't based at a hospital anymore unfortunately, they have around 5 offices, none have porter facilities. When they were based at a hospital they had porters. Hence now them asking people like my wife (who should be assisting with surgery instead) to wheel them in from the parking lot.

Right, and I'm guessing you used that particular comparison because you're the kind of person who can tell at a glance whether the person with a handicapped parking sticker really deserves it. The medical profession can sure use a savant like you who can operate without lab tests and diagnostic equipment.

Your wife was hired to do a job. If she has problems with the job, she needs to bring it up with her managers. She is not being paid to be nasty to ugly people.
