I'm surprised you haven't heard the figures being bandied around recently by various news outlets, there's been quite a bit about just how pricey the US is.

$9,892 for the US
$4,192 for the UK

Absolutely not true. There are free or low cost medical clinics for those without insurance.

Swings and roundabouts. In the US if you can't afford insurance/ co-pays/ meds you wait until it's a job for the ER, in the UK you join the waiting list and hope you get seen before it's a job for A&E.

Low cost clinics are springing up all over Manhattan. They have clear glass windows (no blinds) and you can see mostly young people sitting down waiting for a doctor. They seemed to show up overnight.
