mini-bus to Phuket airport
From Patong the drive is around 40 minutes but a mini-bus would be making a number of pickups through town. My flight is at 0930 so I should be checking in anytime between 0730 and 0830 right? Will it take more than 1.5 hours to do the run?

The operator of the bus will know exactly how long the extended journey will take as they do it umpteen times a day every day and every week of the year. Can you ask them ? I would have thought it would take less than 1.5 hrs.

The answers I got we're from 1hr20m to 1hr40m but the concensus of opinion was that I needed to check in 2 hours before departure. Rather than risk missing this deadline because of unforeseen delays by other parties I decided to book a taxi. It took 35m. On check in I asked and was advised the latest time for check in is 30 minutes before departure. Better safe than sorry I guess.
