How would you deal with the massive Chinese army that crossed the border to ptotect their Korean brothers just as happened in the Korean war.

Just to add to this scenario; United States agrees to foot the bill for South Korea for the cost of bringing NK up to South Korean standard of living. Maybe just a token amount, $200 billion per year for the first ten years, something like that. I'm sure the US Congress will be happy to oblige.

I think the Chinese are pragmatic enough to let the rest of the world rescue North Korea and change it from being a drain on their resources into a customer with money to spend on Chinese products.

It will not be about economics but not wanting a US ally with one of the largest armies in the world on its border.
China could have removed Kim or his predecessors any time it wanted , it just suits them to have an anti US ally under its thumb.

I along with many others, had been hoping that Kim would get overthrown from within. Gone are the days when a leader could keep the outside world from its people. However I believe he has such a stranglehold on the populace that that is not going to happen. Likewise I cannot see a US sponsored assassination working.

What puzzles me is Kims ultimate objective. What will change when he has the nuclear armed missiles to be able to strike the US mainland.?

Maybe it is time for Trump to meet the Chinese leader and talk about what each would accept.

Will yet more sanctions work? I suspect not as the country has managed all these years. I am also sceptical of Russia's non involvement in helping North Korea. While the Us is distracted by unwanted military action in Asia it would be less likely to help a weak Europe in more Russian territory grabs.

Overall it is quite depressing as is the armadeddon we will experience in the Middle East when Iran gets its nuclear capability in 8 to 10 years time thanks to the weak Obama foreign policy.

" Always look on the bright side of life, doo doo"

Only one country has ever used nuclear weapons, not Russia, not Pakistan ,not China, Not France, not the UK, not India, not Israel, .
Every country who uses nuclear power has the capacity to produce a bomb.

Hardly.
During the 80,s when there were US atomic weapons at Greenham common, US weapons convoys on our roads and F11s were flying out of Upper Heyford over our house we decided that should it ever come to the worst we would sit on the roof with a bottle of Champagne toasting the mushroom clouds .
Such was the level of gloom and doom from some quarters then. repeated in some today.
The first Iranian missile launch would be met with an immediate Israeli and US response.
We should be more frightened of Trump than anyone in Tehran.

Really! I find them all frightening. Of course Tehran isn't sponsoring or fomenting any wrong doing in the Middle East. No the regime is perfectly innocent

If we had had Internet forums during the Cuban missile crisis or even when Hitler came to prominence, I wonder if people would still then have been saying nothing to worry about.

What is perhaps more telling is that the people that post literally thousands of posts on what are fairly inconsequential topics have little or nothing to say on this subject.

If the internet had been around in the 60's , we may have already experienced what would happen if the US bombs NK.

Thatcher justified the sinking of an obsolete Argentine warship in international waters because in her words it was a threat to UK military operations even though it was steaming away from the Falklands.
N Korea has enough international examples to act against US sabre rattling on its borders.

Do you think Thatcher was wrong in deciding to go to war over the Falklands ?

Not at all,but was her government's reduction in the Military presence on the South Atlantic that encouraged the Argentinians.
Once we had regained them she and Nott should have resigned , Carrington did the decent thing, She and Nott basked in the glory of those who gave their lives.
The Belgrano was just a propaganda stunt , it was never a threat to the task force.

It was a test of the tigerfish torpedos. They did have some failures apparently that I have never seen formally reported.

I'd have to confirm that with the captain of the sub which sank it

HMS Sheffield wasn't so lucky though was it ?
