If the UN had ever functioned properly and served the purpose for which it was founded then the measures I described could have been achieved. All you've pointed out is a good argument for dissolving it.

There are plenty of people with better insight than I who believe the same thing.

Merkel may think she's doing humanity a favour by accepting legions of refugees into Germany and bullying other countries to do the same but if these people just end up living in the down at heels, poor neighborhoods of the large cities across the EU then I leave you to imagine the outcome.
I reckon the only sensible solution is to tell 'em all to bugger off. After all, they're out to take over the world, right?

The UN is only as strong as its member countries. Which countries do you think are willing to provide adequate protection for refugee camps in the middle of a volatile war zone?

Well they have tried to conquer Europe at least once in the distant past. Bram Stoker's inspiration for Dracula was a Romanian nobleman who earned the nickname Vlad the Impaler due to his habit of chucking captured Turkish prisoners from the castle battlements onto pointed wooden stakes below. Not that I'm suggesting that this should be done to Islamic terrorists.

Vlad the Impaler is still something of a hero to this day in Romania since he saved the country from the Turks.

Just thought I'd mention it since memories of past attempted Muslim invasions of eastern Europe still run strong in some of those countries. Could be the reason that they don't go along with Merkel.

All countries should be ready and willing to provide the troops for that purpose.

And the bottom line is they weren't. So how does your suggestion then make sense?

Maybe it's because Vote Leave kept telling the lie that 76 million Turks were about to join the EU.....

Well, at least we now know the motivation behind the delusion.

Tell that to the people of South Korea or Israel whose very existence is based on the U.N. .
Or Cyprus or Kosovo.
You really do need to brush up on your knowledge of international affairs.

Vlad was an ally of the turks at one time and paid them a tribute , his brother reputedly a lover of the Sultan.

That doesn't do away with the fact that the UN has failed on so many other occasions. The most senseless policy when it comes to peacekeeping is that troops under UN command are forbidden to engage in combat when in certain operations. That's probably why many countries are reluctant to put their troops in harm's way since the option for self defence doesn't exist.

As it concerns Kosovo I would be more inclined to give NATO along with the Kosovo Liberation Army credit for that country's existence. The Serbians called it quits after Clinton had a few bombs dropped on it's home territory

Maybe Vlad found out about his brothers gay relationship and took matters into his own hands with the Turks.

Which only makes my argument that the UN is impotent and basically ineffective even more valid.

So what are your proposals for making it less "impotent" and "ineffective"?
