Default What strange items do you take away

Am I too set in my ways? We are just starting to sort what we need for our trip in September. It's a fully furnished rented apartment but I have to take: my own sheets, towels and pillows, loose Yorkshire tea, china mugs and at the moment I'm looking for a big china tea pot to take as never could find one and resorted to a glass one last January (and yes bought from the tat chinese supermarket!) Also take my own potato peeler and gravy powder and a supply of empty takeaway boxes. Husband thinks I'm getting 'ridiculous' and has stopped me taking my new airfryer!. What musts do other people take???

No, I don't think you're set in your ways at all. Anything to make your life easier/simpler has to be of benefit.
Northern Spain doesn't have the "foreign" shops like the south does. Whenever we go to England we tend to bring the following since they're unavailable here:
Yorkshire loose tea
Birdalls gravy salt
Cadbury's chocolate
marmite
Branston pickle
Indian pickle/chutney
poppadoms
rapeseed oil
oxo cubes
pork pies
free range bacon
sausages
Quaker oats porridge
a Swiss potato peeler

I'd personally never buy a china teapot, as they break/chip easily. Get a metal one. And bring a tea cosy....very English!

Sorry, forgot to add 'stuffing' if you're going to do roast chicken as it's a very English thing. I often make my own, but when time permits.

You can easily get most of those items from our local supermarket along with the Iceland shop. Most of our Spanish supermarkets sell Cadbury choc, marmite, Oxo,Melton Mowbray pork pie from Iceland etc.
Where do you live, on the moon??😃

Oh Steve, you really have no idea what it is like for some of us. As you know I live about an hours drive away from you and the only thing on the list that I am able to buy is Quacker Oats. When an area lacks Brits it also lacks British items.

Yes, Sorry about that, maybe we are all spoilt a tad here!! The other places I've stopped at recently, Murcia, Denia etc also sell most of those items.

Perhaps an opportunity there for you Rosemary 🙄

No, a bit nearer; Euskadi, aka Euskal Herria, aka The Basque country.
There are none of those products listed to be found here, nor an Iceland. And I'm quite happy that there isn't! After all, the longer you do without them, the better they taste when you purchase them!

It's great here; we have mountains covered in trees, green fields, hot weather in summer, water in abundance, excellent food & wine, fresh fish from the Atlantic, a weird language (Basque, not Spanish), pintxos that put the tapas of the south in the shade, an hour's drive from France, and plenty of employment (tho' I'm retired).
But no Branston pickle.

And the Costas? Iceland/similar shops, corruption, too much sun, too many tourists, sky rise hotels, parched countryside, half-full reservoirs, air conditioning, unemployment, umpteen restaurants catering for tourists with predictable menus.

I rest my case!!

PS: you ought to visit this area; if nothing else, it'll make you long for an English breakfast when you return home.

PPS: many Basques go to Benidorm in the winter and in a certain street (known as calle de 'coño' because they say "coño, que haces tu aqui) there are several Basque bars & restaurants.
