VW Auto Gearbox
Hi all...
Does anybody out there know of an automatic gearbox specialist place? I'd say on the Costa Blanca initially, but anywhere in Spain would be worth following up on.
My auto gearbox has given up on my 1999 1.6 Golf, it's a shame really as there is a mere 60,000 on the clock and, other than the gearbox giving up, drives like a new car.
Any thoughts?
Please don't anyone suggest getting a new car, I figure that for a nominal layout I should get many years out of the Golf yet.

I know it is miles and miles but there is an auto box specialist on the main industrial estate in Velez Malaga.
My point being look around for a big one with the car repair specialists on it. Bound to be a gearbox hombre. As with everything it is just finding them. when asked why they don't advertise the response is frequently "why everybody knows we are here"
The dumb English don't however.

I used the attached company a couple of years ago to rebuild my Range Rover auto gear box which I had damaged by selecting reverse whilst still moving forward, yes it was a stupid mistake on my behalf, they gave me excellent service and very dependable , plus the repair bill was very competative, I know its not that local to you but perhaps worth considering $$$ http://www.transmatic.es/en/
Good luck

Re: VW Auto Gearbox
Hi Rotor,
That seems a good price on the face of it , my Range Rover is a P-38 model, I paid Euro 1200 for my tranny to be removed, stripped, repaired and reinstalled plus 12 months warranty, my RR was off the road for 3 1/2 days during the repairs, I noticed that Ashcroft sell on a service exchange basis so the old VW box would have to be shipped back to the UK adding more costs for the transplant, plus obviously you have the mechanics time in Spain to do the change out adding additional costs, that is unless the VW owner can do it himself, his or hers decision.
