Brenan returned to Spain in the 50s and lived near Malaga. He died in Spain in 1987 and is buried in the English Cemetry (Malaga) His early years in Spain were made into a film in 2003 - named after his book 'South from Granada'

Yes, I agree - for anyone interested in Spanish history his books are well worth reading.

Could not agree more and the Alpujarras are a wonderful region . Yegen itself has his house clearly marked for curious tourists and the villages nearby are all worth visiting. Valor has an annual reenactment of a battle between the Christians and Moors in September while up in Trelevez you can buy some amazing rag carpets for ridiculous prices as well as excellent jamon.

I walked the mountains in the area many years ago before I discovered Brenan, very enjoyable.
