Hi Rod
we are further along going east, nearer to Almeria but we are Costa Tropical, still quite undiscovered as yet, but in the foothills of los Alpujarra's, so very close to Sierra Nevada. we live in place called Albunol and it is just a 10 minute drive to nearest beach at La Rabita. the motorway here is still under construction, but when completed will make the trip to Malaga infinitly shorter. Easyjet have started flights to Almeria and so have Ryanair both from Stanstead but easyjet will also be flying gatwick to Almeria starting March next.
with that in mind Ryanair are starting to fly the Granada route early next year, so consequently getting to UK from here in very much easier.
But if it is night life you want apart from the bars etc not a lot goes on, but the people are great and it is a nice place to be living.

Costa del Sol is where you will find a high Expat area however if you have to work here you must be able to speak Spanish or you will be limited when you search for work. There are so many people working in Real Estate from shop fronts and from their front room in their homes to get a slice of the cake. The birthday party is over and the market has changed and you will find that many people are looking to purchase 2nd properties in places like Bulgaria, Cyprus, Crotia, South Africa and Florida where they will find them a fraction of the cost. The Costa del Sol is no longer a cheap place to live. If you are going it alone and you have no responsibilities then OK but do your research before arriving. Many nationalities are living here however may have businesses in other countries. We have been here 6 years now and unless you have money in the bank your savings will not last long.

Good points:
SUN, SEA, SAND........ people generally look happy. More of an outdoor life for the familly. International schools. Restaurants. Many nationalities (my children have over 30 in their school). Flights to UK a fraction of the cost they used to be.

Downside: Not being fluent in Spanish Missing family and friends. Dog eat dog on the business side. Many false people living here. Purchased property now will have difficulty selling as there are so many properties on the market.

We are ready to move on but have enjoyed it while here.

Good luck if you come. My advice is rent first and bargain with the price, prices have come down a lot. It will take 1 year to feel you have settled for sure. Take a trip back to the UK that will make you realise why people leave.
The Grass is always greener!

Good luck

Crime what Crime!!!
not something luckily we have extremely little off here.
I agree though you need a year to feel settled especially as here there are very few English speakers so we had to speak Spanish from day one, hence it has come on in leaps and bounds.
Happy Christmas to you all
Pat

Try the other side - Costa Esuri - Ayamonte, looks like you would have plenty of business there. Very high expat population, mostly holiday homes. Prices of properties just outside this complex are relatively cheap to buy.
