Default Seeking some peaceful property.

Looking for some advice please. My wife and I are thinking of downsizing from our current house situated on the Costa Blanca north to perhaps an apartment further down the coast maybe even to the Costa Del Sol. We are not particularly bothered about ready access to a beach as we would be willing to drive to one when we wanted to.
Our biggest concern is finding ourselves in a property where the majority or many around us are rental properties bringing with them large numbers of tourists during the summer with their families rather than permanent owners.
So my question is, is there any way of choosing somewhere peaceful (not in the middle of nowhere!) but where there are people around us who are like-minded? I appreciate visiting likely locations will be essential, but out of season many will appear on the surface to be peaceful and relaxing.
I don't think we really relish retirement communities but they may be our only option so I appreciate this a difficult question to answer.
What should or can we do to narrow down our search to archive what we would like?
Is it even possible without taking a gamble?
Thanks in advance.

Have a look at some of the coastal towns on the Costa del Sol . San Pedro, Estepona even Fuengirola. They all have sufficient size to have a good mix of properties with local and long term foreign residents to ensure year round life. Maybe get a bit crowded in the summer but still offer a good quality existence.

Where is it you live? Further down the coast could be Altea if you live in Denia. Also do you want to be near a lot of other British residents?

Live in Moraira and have thought about Altea. Not particularly bothered about being near Brits, but we'd like to able to make some contact with them because of the cultural similarities and interests. Think we'd want to be fairly well back from the coastal Altea as like so many places along the Costas it gets so packed for quite a few months of the year.
Thanks for your response.

What worries me is that you are seeking peaceful but will you get that in an apartment? Yes, not all apartments are loud and most people live in apartments but if you're coming from a house that's peaceful apartments can be a nightmare, especially in Spain.

Coincidentally, the same thought has crossed my mind in the last 24 hours. Thanks for that!

From what you have said I would have thought an small town slightly inland may suit you.
For example not too far from you is Pego, close enough to the coast but far enough not to be a tourist town. It is a working town with supermarkets etc. but not too large so you can be on the quieter edge of the town but still close to the centre. There are similar towns throughout the area and Spain so with a bit of research I am sure you shall find somewhere suitable.

You're welcome. I know most people don't mind living in apartment and you can live on top floor, or be lucky to have an apartment where you don't hear things but anyone seeking peace might struggle. Most apartments where I've stayed overnight (family/friends/holiday) were loud and I could hear things I don't want to hear all the time. Toilets flushing, doors banging in hallway, TV/Music, people talking etc. Some people also get used to it or don't hear it anymore but wouldn't be for me.
