State Schools In Spain
Hi There,
Does anyone on here know if you can send your Children to the State school in Spain Upon arrival. We would have a place rented and hopefully the relevant registrations etc. But more than likely no jobs at the start and I would want the kids to start school as soon as possible. In the UK school application is dependant on where you live and your legal right to be in the country.
Some help would be appreciated as finding information on this is tricky.
Thanks

Normally registration is done at certain times of the year, springtime, if you wish them to go to a particular school . If you arrive out of that time frame you do not get a choice but they are allocated to a school.
Best thing to do is to check out local schools as soon as you arrive .

The right of children to receive an education is enshrined in Spanish law, as a legal resident with the correct documentation your children should benefit from this right.

Yes, but as said, you will need to be registered as resident (residency certificate/card, padron etc.). The children will also need a medical at some point (in most state schools) so you need to be registered with a state doctor or go privately.
They will adapt to the language quickly I'm sure.

It's not so much whether the children are allowed to attend school in Spain, rather they will be legally obliged to (if over 6 years old) once you are resident. Depending on the area, getting children into a state school you like, or indeed the same state school as each other, may not be possible. It is something that needs to be researched up front.
