driving in spain
hi , does anyone know if a uk driving licence is enough to enable you to be able to drive whilst living in spain , using a personal car not a rental car...or..do you have to take a spanish driving test...aslo..if you have a moped, would a provisional licence with a cbt be ok to enable you to drive in spain on a moped or would you once again have to take a spanish motorcyle test.....thank you from andre and fiona.

UK driving license is all you need to drive a car in Spain. I don't know about moped.

I believe that you can actually exchange your UK DL for a Spanish one without the need for the 'health' check but for all renewals it is compulsory.
There is no driving test involved.
Of course the rules could all change after Brexit so I would advise all those intending to reside as residents to grab a Spanish DL now before it (possibly) gets more complicated.

If you look carefully, at the top of the forum homepage, third post down at the top is the definitive driving licence thread. All the info you could possibly want is there.

I didn't need a medical until this year when I reached the age of 70, and then a medical is compulsory every 5 years thereafter.

Re: driving in spain
Provisional licenses don't exist in Spain, so a UK provisional license would be of no use whatsoever, all Spanish people HAVE to learn through a driving school and are not allowed on the road driving any other vehicle until they have passed. Yes I UK licence is all that is needed, but you should either get it stamped by traffico or exchange it for a Spanish one, and you should have any medical tests done in the same way that Spanish people do.
Equally, you MAY NOT need to exchange it for a Spanish one although I would advise it.

If all this fails, ask a Gestor to do it for you.

I went to traffico last week. They were not interested in padron but were most insistant that I produce my "green sheet" to accompany my photo licence. Luckily I had not destroyed it as instructed by dvlc.
