Just wondering when the satellite sun outage starts to happen here in Alicante.
Been getting a momentary 'no signal' in the morning and possibly also later in the evening. Is this normal in the second half of Feb?

It starts to cause problems at around 11am from around the end of this week, through to the end of next week if I have read the calculator correctly.

Who give a toss whether it is illegal or not. The worst that can happen if you are fool enough to tell them you are abroad is that Sky will cut you off. However bear in mind that their subscribers in Europe are around 1.5 to 2 million people so if they cut us all off they would lose getting on for a billion a year. They are not going to do it.

Eventually all satellite broadcasts will cease as it is cheaper for this to be done on line rather than paying for expensive satellites. When that happens there will be a cat and mouse between service providers and VPN companies as each tries to find proxy servers and hide their functions.

A good site for news about what is happening is Latest Astra 2E news and potential loss of BBC & ITV satellite channels in Southern Spain and Portugal. which strangely enough is a UK site and not associated with Sky. However they do update virtually on a daily basis what is happening in the satellite world.

It is more like 1m, if that.
They have just over 10m TV subscribers, I doubt a fifth are expats.

Eventually maybe, but at the moment it is still cheaper to transmit a large number of live TV channels via satellite than the tinkernet...
and it is not just cost, but coverage - satellite still offered the best coverage for the whole of the UK, better than terrestrial, and better than internet.
And with UDH / 4k and now 8k, and the amount of data required, at least for now satellite offers the best (and cheapest) coverage.

Yes during the current satellites lifespan there will be a move to more internet based TV, especially more "on demand and catchup", but for live not too sure.
For the next batch of satellites in 12+ years time, the move to online will all depend on how much of the UK has access to "high speed" internet.

Very Interesting we are currently looking into taking our Sky box with us when we move. A friend does Sky installations for a big caravan site and told us as long as the 12 month contract is up when you first take sky you can disconnect the phone line with no problems. We have multiroom at the minute so have 2 boxes I was thinking of when we do move. Give 1 sky box to my sister and pay the bills there then take the 2nd box to Spain.

In a ideal world I would just let her have the sky and I would have the sky go but it is blocked. I was reading you can have something called iptv without the need for a box or dish.

Does anybody have bein sports in Spain?
