Retention of SA Nationality
Hi there,
I hope someone can help me.I was born in the UK, and my family moved to SA in 1983 - I was about 5 years old.
I lived there for 26 years, during which time I acquired an SA ID book and an SA passport. As I was entitled to a British one, I got one of those too.
My family moved back to the UK some time ago, and I followed them. I have since got married, and wish to change the name on my SA passport (which expires in 2018), but it seems it's not that simple.
Can anyone advise me what to do? Should I have applied to retain my SA citizenship before leaving SA? As I lived there for so long, am I entitled to automatic citizenship, or is it not that simple? I really don't want to lose it, it was my home for a very long time.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!

What's your concern? You gained South African citizenship after your British citizenship so there's no issue of loss there.

If you're anywhere near London, you can pop in to the consulate (or phone them) and ask them what you need to do to change your name on your S.A. passport. You won't lose your S.A. citizenship as you are allowed to hold two passports.
