PR 5 yrs married or 5 yrs of co-habitation

Do you have to be married 5yrs or does proof of 5+ years of co-habitation suffice for PR application?

It used to be solid proof of co-habitation because they recognize same-sex and civil partnerships, when marriage wasn't always an option. I don't think it's changed, but remember - your answers and decisions will be based on the mood of the home affairs official you deal with. They don't tend to stick to a fixed set of rules I'm afraid.
