A great time to visit SA!

A great time to visit SA!
So, Zuma has fired Nene, the finance minister. The rand (predictably) has collapsed even further - down to R15/$, which is quite extraordinary. Even the banks are calling it a "tanking". Banking shares dropped 7% on the news
It seems the Chinese had dropped $60bn into Africa's lap, and Nene wanted to waste it all on education, infrastructure and economic growth, while Zuma had his eyes on a new plane and bigger fleet of cars (and no, I'm not making this up). So Nene had to go, that pesky socialist.
So, if you want to go and visit SA you can live for a few weeks like a king on only a handful of $s (that's US, not Zimbabwean). However if you live there, you're pretty much screwed.

I've long said, the biggest issue with living in SA isn't the crime (scary though that is), it's the despotic insanity of the ANC. A weakening rand will make imports more expensive, increase interest rates, increase the deficit (leading to higher taxes for the 20% who pay them) and cost jobs. The result? More crime.
You couldn't make it up.

The only thing that surprises me is that it has taken (as long as) twenty years to turn Africa's strongest economy into a basket case.

If you have any South African friends (of any colour) with tertiary qualifications, tell them to apply for jobs in the Cayman Islands. There's quite a little SA community here, all desperately pleased to be able to make a life elsewhere.
