Electrical Apprenticeships in Singapore for 16-18 year olds?

Hi, my husband and I are moving to Singapore for work next summer along with our 16 year old son. Our son will have completed his GCSEs at this point and is keen on finding an Electrical apprenticeship where he will be able to both study at college to become an electrician while also working for an Electrical Installation company at the same time. These apprenticeships are very popular in London and I’d like to understand if they are available and operate in the same way in Singapore?

Does anyone have any advice on if or how apprenticeships for 16-18 year olds are managed in Singapore (if at all)? I wondered if anyone in the construction/electrical industry in Singapore could offer any advice?

Many thanks, Leanne

This forum ain't too busy these days.
So I'll answer without knowing much about your question.

I think you and your son will be disappointed.
Haven't heard about apprenticeships here.

From my experience you get the local electrician who's learnt what he knows by luck and the next step up is an electrical engineer.

There must be some qualification to become an electrician so maybe if you contacted the Singapore professional electrical engineers they could point you in the right direction. You might have to google for an email address.

Otherwise maybe someone on here will know.

From another site:

'There is earn n learn programme now in singapore. Essentially the student (fresh ite or poly grad) get employed by a company then sent on a training course jointly developed by the company and a poly. Poly get to report the numbers (their kpi) and company gets grants ($) for each trainee.

Upon completing the course, the student is employed by the company. But it's entry level paying 1.8k or so.

This is our apprenticeship here, and only some sectors are offered, you need to check with skillsfuture singapore website.'

What visa will he be on?

Work pass exemption for foreign students

If he gets into an approved local college, then he can do work release type programmes. Apprenticeships here are managed by the vocational schools - they are normally called traineeships

The best one to apply for is ITE

https://www.ite.edu.sg/

Fees fro foreigners are about 11,000 pounds a year
