Default B1 VISA for domestic helpers accompanying employer to the United States

ATTENTION:

The U.S. Embassy will be holding a town hall meeting hosted by Singapore American School on October 2, 2014 to discuss and answer questions regarding the B1-visa application process for domestic employees wishing to travel to the United States with their employer.
We are holding this event because, in comparison to a traditional B1/B2 visa, a B1-visa for a domestic employee is a special visa subclass that contains extra provisions that is not required for the typical B1/B2 visa application. Many families, especially those with small children or elderly parents, enjoy traveling with their domestic helpers, but find the application requirements for their helpers perplexing and burdensome. Therefore, we would like to take this opportunity to explain the entire process in a simple, straightforward manner, and give your members the opportunity to ask questions.

Topics that will be discussed include, but are not limited to:

• Which employers are eligible to take their employees to the U.S. while on vacation?
• Which employees are eligible to apply for the B1-visa for domestic employees?
• What should employee bring to the U.S. Embassy during the interview?
• Should employers accompany their employees to the interview?
• What needs to be included in the U.S. employment contract?
• And much, much more!
