Hi im 21 years old and have been given opporuntiy to move to s'pore for work as long as i can get a visa i should be moving out there in January 2012. Looking forward to it but wanting to know what there is to do for someone my age, back home if not working always out with friends down pub / clubs / football / gerenally enjoying myself.
Is there many people my age out there??

Hi Matt, you'll have a ball!

I would think 21 is quite young to be going there alone but there are definitely lots of twenties and thirties I'm sure you'll manage to socialise with. There are also the expat kids who have grown up there and stayed there. I'm not recommending you limit yourself to socialising with expats but they're very handy in the early days

Get yourself involved with Britcham (youngish social group from the British Chamber of Commerce), ANZA, dragonboating, footie, rugby, hockey, whatever is your thing. I can put you in touch with people who do most of those.

There are also clubs for the various nationalities - well they're open to everyone, but there's the British Club, American Club, Hollandse, etc. - but they were definitely not my thing and I'd think way too family-oriented for a 21 year-old.

Sign up to various forums (let me know if you want some URLs) and don't be shy - go along to anything and every barbie advertised. IME you won't click with everyone but you'll click with someone and your networks will gradually evolve.

I know at 21 is very young but thought opportunity to go there for work especially in shipping was far to good to turn down.
I will look into the Britcham as love playing football and although not done for a while also rugby. Would love some more URL's to check out as trying to get in alot of reserch on how everything works before go out there.

As seasider said, you'll have a ball there. It's a busy bustling place, lots to do there and you'll make tons of friends. Wish I'd had the opportunity to move there at 21. You're very lucky. Enjoy.
