Volkswagen has won nine out of 10 lawsuits in Spain brought by buyers of its vehicles over rigged emissions levels. In 2016, only one court ruled partially in favor of the owner of a Volkswagen; in the other nine cases, judges decided that the German carmaker’s vehicles did not produce any more pollution than other cars and that there were no charges to answer, ruling against awarding damages to owners, according to summaries seen by EL PAÍS.

There was nothing actually wrong with Volkswagens (or Seats), they just don't meet the (likley unattainable) standards set by politicians and bureaucrats who know nothing much about the design of cars.

Fiat accused over emissions software

'Serious violation'

According to the EPA, the 104,000 vehicles affected were 2014, 2015 and 2016 model years of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV and Dodge Ram truck.

Between "one-sixth and one-seventh" of the vehicles were sold in Europe, with the rest in the US, according to Fiat Chrysler.

In a press conference, the EPA said at least eight types of emissions control software on the vehicles had not been disclosed to the agency.

It also suggested some of the software appeared to make cars perform differently during emissions tests.

Specifically, they were vehicles with 3 litre diesel engines.

OK but I always considered that VW were not the only cheats and time would reveal more

If anyone else has iffy software, they'd better upgrade it PDQ. I presume that it could be done at routine services, though as someone pointed out, given that some Jeeps could be hacked, real-time, while they were on the road, maybe software updates can be done remotely for some vehicles.

All car companies are probably cheating on their emissions standards by now, or they should be

That’s because once one company starts to cheat on emissions tests, it makes competitive sense for other companies to follow suit. “Good emissions numbers translate to sales these days,”

I've just seen this

https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/ch...195857133.html

Checking the costs in California it works out that the fuel cost of running a Tesla is exactly the same as my Dirty VW diesel

i.e. 1000 miles in a Tesla = 400 kwh at $0.20 per kwh = $80

$2.816 per gallon is today's average diesel cost in California so $80 will buy 19.88 US gallons of diesel

My car has recorded average of 50.3 mpg US

Therefore 50.3 X 19.88 = 999.964 miles
