Furthest commutable distance to downtown Toronto?
I previously posted about moving to Toronto and looking at Brampton. I was basically told I needed to like curry to live there...
So in your opinion, how far out can you live and still be able to commute to downtown? If indeed you actually end up getting work in downtown Toronto...

Very true. But right now my commute is 51 km and it takes me 35 mins. As an example I was looking at houses in Oshawa which are similar in price to Halifax but looking at trains in to downtown it was about an hour...so I was trying to gauge where a good location is. If/when we move that way I don't want to mess my kids around. If it was just hubby and I then we could just try locations until we found one we liked...but we have to consider the kids...

HI, I commute from Whitby (45 mins). The return journey is the problem.

I commuted for 18 months from 5 miles north of Shelburne to Church and Gerrard (1 hour 15 consistently on the way in). I've met lots of people who have commuted from Grand Valley downtown for a decade and one who's been commuting from Grand Valley to Oshawa for twenty years. I worked in First Canadian Place with someone who commuted from Owen Sound (three days a week). I currently work with someone who's husband works at 700 University, they live beside the African Lion Safari. In Toronto, I worked with people who lived in Port Perry and drove in.
I'd say it depends who pays for the parking. Five hours a day in the car is ok, but five hours and thirty bucks would send you over the edge.
The white flight from Brampton puts people in Orangeville. A nasty but feasible commute.

Hey I am in Whitby . The go train in morning is very very reliable and one metro paper later you are at union I actually don't mind it but if I had the choice like oh so many I would want to be local, most cities are the same hustle and bustle. Downtown is generally where the bigger bucks is. Horses for courses....

Barrie on the 400 in summer on a Friday eve, not recommended, Ajax is bad enough but at least I can go Steeles/Westney route and miss out the 401
My cousin commutes from Woodstock to Hamilton in a car, all year round.
