Availability of a job.
Great horizons with those darn pretty mountains.
It was one of the only two provinces we had visited twice before, hence a little knowledge steered us this direction.
Would be tempted to look elsewhere for retirement - but not sure I would want to do the whole "getting to know you" stage in another location. But I sure would like a longer gardening season.

Met/married a Canadian from Quebec with two kids.
Equity from UK home would buy a home in NB and a rental property for income to supplement pension making a manageable total. Might also have been possible in one or two other places but NB being bilingual was good in that it would provide continuing French schooling for the kids.

We didn't choose a province. We chose Vancouver which just happened to be in BC. Why? Mountains, sea, society, climate, cheap Japanese food. Not necessarily in that order.

It provided everything we were after: availability of work; access to sports/interests we enjoyed; ease of international travel and immigrant friendly. Like JonboyE, we didn't choose a Province, but a city.

In no particular order: Job offer, extremely welcoming locals, extremely affordale housing, hot dry summers, cold snowy winters, space and lots of it.

Because if you really have to live in Canada, Vancouver and its slightly broader area is the only habitable place in the naffing country unless you're, well . . .
