Default Has anybody used this site for British back Bacon??????

First time I saw this site. Its listing British back bacon at $8 per pound. Doing the math that's only a little bit more than the cost in the UK. Primarily because its not imported. Its cured here in the British way. Its coming out of Seattle.

I think you have to register first.

I'd be interested in knowing shipping too.

I order from TommyMoloneys - its $50 for $10lb but I only buy the imported as the Made in US stuff is a bit dry and tasteless. If you sign up for their mailing - they do promotions - free shipping etc.. Goodwoods in TX is also good - loads of christmas goodies.

I'm having trouble finding unsmoked cured ham in the Houston area. My husband wants some. Any ideas?

I am also going to go down to Phoenicia on the west side to look for back bacon. They have so many imported meats and bacons... I even get Hungarian-style bacon and Pick salami there. (I'm of Hungarian descent.)

Its a nightmare. I had to register then it would let me fill a cart. $8 for a pound of bacon and $73.14 for shipping. They must think my arse is lined with diamonds. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask.

I've ordered numerous times from these guys. Always great. My previous employer used to allow me to overnight it on the company shipping account.

There is a British Emporium near where I work now ( http://www.british-emporium.com ) I hear they sell Back Bacon, but I've not tried it yet.

The only downside with BritishBacon.com are the periodical emails they send out, with no way to opt out, at least not back then.

Whilst promoting food stuffs, I'd like to add http://www.123curry.co.uk for 'UK' curries. I order 3 or 4 times a year from them. Almost alwasy inspected by customs as they ship in what a packet like the TV programs show drugs in. The smell also attracts the sniffer dogs. My last order included Bulk Nan Bread kit, which was a large pack of white powder

Simple, make your own bread. We've got it pretty close enough now. Buy you are right the off the shelf stuff is horrible.

The best we found so far is Williams pork also. They use the Wiltshire cure method developed by the Harris family in Calne Wiltshire.
All the other pork products are good tool.
I like to treat myself to one of their chirstmas packages this time of year.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiltshire_cure - you learn something new every day!

Thanks for the links that various people have posted.

One question though, not knowing much about bacon except that it grows in plastic packets on supermarket shelves , what do the Americans do with the back bacon? There must be a use for it - maybe as a different form of joint?

Also they sell it as "canadian" "bacon" which I've tried but tastes vile. Coated in peameal or cornmeal for some reason..
