Dear fellow Brit ex-pats,
I'm a 28-year-old male living in Tavira, I've been here a month so I'm trying to find my way around.
I'm looking for friends, age doesn't matter to me.
Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Hi Jay! What do you think of the area then, do you like it?
I am thinking of moving to that area myself soon, or maybe a little more north like Silves so it would be good to have an English speaking friend nearby. Would be good to exchange experiences and keep in touch what do you say?
Thanks

Hi Melv,
Good to hear from you!
Yes, the area is lovely. What I like about the Algarve is that it has something for everyone. Not many areas around the world can say that.
Do keep in touch. Cheers!

Hi Jay, Yes of course I would like to keep in touch, I really wish I was there today instead of dull, cloudy and rainy England!. I live near Skegness if you know that part of the country. I have been to Portugal a few times and found the people there very friendly and helpful. I am trying to learn the language but find it difficult learning from a book as all I can find is Spanish.
Of course, when there and it's all around you, you will pick it up more. What made you move there and where did you come from?
Did you 'go it alone' or bring a girlfriend ect? Either way I believe you made a GREAT choice.
Looking forward to your reply, Take care, Melv.

Hi Melv,
I don't feel comfortable writing about my "story" on a public forum, though it is one that generally surprises/shocks/both. It's a personal touch thing, and personal safety - you never know who could be lurking around online. I'll send you a message telling you this stuff.
Yes, the Portuguese are a friendly people, especially if you at least try a few words in the language. This is seen as a respect for the culture and stand a better chance in being accepted. As you might gather from previous posts, I speak Spanish and many words are very similar, if not the same. "Ayudar (Spanish) = to help = ajudar (Portuguese). Go to a book shop in the UK and look for an English-Portuguese dictionary, just a pocket-sized thing will do. Order it if it's not in stock, and when you're here you get Portuguese lessons.
If there's anything else, let me know.
Hi TaviraTrog,
Again, I will send you a private message telling you my interests and other useful info, but the more that people see my face around here, the more I'll be able to tell who to be around and who not.
Thanks again!

Hey Jay / all,
I'm a 32 yr old male, I moved into Tavira in the beginning of September ... brought my car over from the UK.
The past month has been cool ... getting settled in, getting to know the area and nearby areas.
Meeting people and socializing is important and it's something I want to start doing more here. I already know some people via my weekly activities: going to the gym, portuguese language lessons, zumba classes, cafes, etc. But I'd like to get to know more peeps here as there are a few things I'm thinking about:
- I live in my apartment in a holiday complex overlooking the pool with a balcony ... some day soon I want to do a pool-side housewarming party ... maybe even play on my decks on the balcony.
- DJing in Tavira is on the cards ... last week when in Faro I went out on a boat and came across a club on a boat called 'Jamanta' ... that would be epic.
- I love cooking (for others), there's a restaurant on site where I live, thinking of setting up some cookery lessons there possibly, or even do cook-offs ... they're fun
- I used to enjoy playing Texas Hold'em Poker in the UK ... not sure if poker is a big thing here ... but hosting games would be cool ... got my chip stack ready and waiting
- Organizing a pool tournament in my local bar on site, or the pool hall in town would make more sense ... never actually been in there
- Organizing a tennis tournament on the courts I have outside
Actually Jay, there's a jazz festival at Quinta da Fonte do Bispo this Sat evening ... needs to be pre-booked I think (just the jazz or a pre-dinner as well) ... I'll be going for the jazz and to mingle ... ping me if you fancy it.
Take care guys ... Keep smiling,
Etch

Strange how when we move to another country we are Ex-pats but when someone moves to the UK they are immigrants or as so often the case called illegal immigrants.
No disrespect meant to the OP.

Welcome to the Algarve and I hope you make lots of friends. Though based out in Silves I think I am quite a distance away!!!!
It reminds me I should spend more time meeting people and less time working from home. I am also of a similar age (30) and moved here with my son and husband four years ago.
