He is of course cheating you. www.cic.gc.ca or the wiki here will tell you about the emigration routes to Canada.

ummm I think the only person making money here would be him lol - $12k are you avin' a giraffe???
I know you might want to move to Canada urgently but DO NOT pay that money to that person.
Read into various visa options by doing research, and complete the paperwork yourself. Ask questions on here and good luck

For further information I think he would be getting you a temporary work permit.
You would not get a permanent one for a restaurant job.
He as the employer I suspect would already have been approved for whats called an LMO (look it up), so basically it would cost him almost NOTHING to get the relevant paperwork for you.
You should be very angry that this person would want 12 grand from you for doing basically bugger all.

My guess is in this case you'd lose $12,000 and be working illegally!
I’ll also add, that I think, you’d end up washing dishes trying to earn enough to go home

I suspect anybody who's likely to ask for $12,000 for getting a visa is very unlikely to have bothered to get an LMO sorted out..

Three words in Google 'Work Permit Fraud' will get you this http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/departm...tice-fraud.asp

It is illegal for anyone to offer to fix you up with a job in Canada for a fee.
A Temporary Work Permit, fairly and legally applied for, costs $150.
This kid of scam is common but not usually by people who you know personally, much less anyone you would count as a friend
This is immigration fraud, as Aviator says.
No-one can actually guarantee you work in Canada because a job offer is only one part of a very long and complicated process which is done by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
This man cannot get you into Canada legally and if he manages to do so fraudulently and this is discovered at any time either during or after you have arrived, which is very likely, you will be deported and will never be allowed back into Canada again.
He will also be liable to prosecution and they will come down on him very hard indeed.
Tell this man he is a liar and a cheat and that you want nothing to do with him and while you are at it, tell your father to choose his "friends" a bit more carefully from now on.

Maybe hes including Business Class flights and 5 star accomodation in that price...

There are not enough rude words to describe this man and this sort of nasty exploitation of the desperate.
I wish it was possible for the OP to give me this man's details because I would report this to CIC in a flash. Anyone within Canada can report this kind of fraud to CIC.
If he has a business in Canada now, which he said he did, didn't he - a restaurant - he could wave goodbye to that if they find out what he has been up to.
I would expect that the OP is not the only mug he has tried this scam on with.

1. It is very likely he can get you in easily
2. It unlikely you will get caught, but you might be unlucky?
3. If you do get caught, the paper work will take ages, so moving province is an option.
4. If they ever do get you to court, point out you thought it was legal, show them the receipt, you might get off.
5. Even if you do get kicked out, many do come back and try again
It may be cynical, but its not that wrong!!!
to quote wikipedia
CanadaThere is no credible information available on unathorized immigration in Canada. Estimates range between 35,000 and 120,000 unauthorized immigrants in Canada.[65] James Bissett, a former head of the Canadian Immigration Service, has suggested that the lack of any credible refugee screening process, combined with a high likelihood of ignoring any deportation orders, has resulted in tens of thousands of outstanding warrants for the arrest of rejected refugee claimants, with little attempt at enforcement.[66] Refugee claimants in Canada do not have to attempt re-entry to learn the status of their claim. A 2008 report by the Auditor General Sheila Fraser stated that Canada has lost track of as many as 41,000 illegal immigrants
